Susan A. Taphorn, 71, Rockford, died Thursday morning, July 31, 2014 in P.A. Peterson Center for Health. Born November 16, 1942 in Rockford, daughter of Robert D. and Mary Wright Taphorn. She was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria. Susan was a well respected member of the OSF Medical Center family for over 31 years where she was the long time manager in Risk Management. She was involved in many aspects of the hospital, serving on numerous committees and in management positions. She was also very active in many community organizations, serving on several boards, including being an early member of the Northern Illinois Hospice board of directors. She was an avid needlepointer, being a Member Emeritus of ANG, Fox Chapter. Susan had a great sense of humor and will always be remembered for her patience, kindness, tolerance and love.
Survivors include her brother, Dennis (Freda) Taphorn; sister, Melissa Taphorn; niece, Kristine (Jason) Martindale; nephew, Mark "Sparky" Taphorn and numerous cousins. Predeceased by her parents. The Taphorn family would like to thank the staff at P.A. Peterson for their compassionate care, especially Debbie, Tammy, Jerilene, Brittany, Lauen and Minnie.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014 in Calvary Cemetery, 8616 West State Street Road with Rev. William R. Wentink officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
